Scum

If AMD built a Rambus Chipset they might manage to get one of their platforms within spitting distance of Intel's best current combination, of 840 chipset and 1.13GHz processor.

Thats why

Scumbria,
Because it's business.

AMD is focused on the competition with Intel, their target is to become the kind of company people are looking at saying they are on the edge of technology: "They have not the biggest market share but they are innovative and the others are the followers" (in our case Intel).
They tried to act like that kind of cpy during the launch of the first 1Gz CPU.

I believe AMD do not mind to use RDRAM if this technology helps them to keep up with Intel in the race of the over 1Gz CPU coming soon. I would even say that sooner or later they will need this technology, and will have to become even more clever at running it than the Intel people if they want their core objective to remain possible someday.

Since you seem to like a lot the AMD Management, to anticipate or at least consider the use of such a powerful technology (and potentially less expensive if Rambus prove to be effectively entitled to get royalties on the DDR (higher that on RDRAM)) would be GOOD MANAGEMENT. And they're paid for that, you that I suspect to be a AMD shareholder, what are you expecting from them for the money that they get...

In the business, alliances doesn't mean so much when it comes to perform, enemies of yesterday can become friends of today...

Tates work several years in AMD if I recall correctly,
