The only problem Gary is that lot of the new entrants (the smaller Tier II carriers) do NOT have the depth, breath, & the engineering/technical expertise in-house to source all the component networking technology inhouse and put it all together.

You are talking about the OLD Carrier business model, not the emerging trend.

As usual, there will be different camps in terms of who will outsource more aggressively verus others who will manage their network buildout internally, but my feeling is that the trend is more towards letting the networking Vendor do the lion's share of General Contracting in the loose sense of the word that General Contracting implies.

(by the way your assertion that few pennies won't hurt the incumbent Carrier/PTT can't be more off the mark & without appearing to criticise you, this shows your complete lack of knowledge in what is happening in the Telecom voice market. The rate are PLUMMETING and when you realize that the big Carriers revenue is STILL generated predominantly by Voice traffic (over 90%), and then see this revenue stream go down quarter after quarter as the de-regulation & competition rages on....to the point that big players like AT&T, Deutche Telecom, Teleglobe, etc. are seeing substantial erosion in their financials.

And the layoffs are happening massively across all telecom Carrier sector.........read the news my friend.
