Hi Jim! I'll volunteer some service picks. You didn't give a time frame, so with that in mind, I can always wimp out if my selections aren't up significantly in six months.

The fabs are underperforming. Capex spending is creeping out dollar by dollar. If we truly do have a shortage of crude, it's only a matter of time before the deepwater exploration plays become reality.

In this environment, I like GLBL and HOFF.

HOFF has already produced a 100% return for me, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it produce another 100%. I don't think historic numbers will help you here. HOFF is young and aggressive! They are expanding into international plays after being very successful in the GOM. They've made their bones in the Gulf, so to speak. International expansion opens this company up to huge potential reward.

GLBL is well, GLBL. Nuff said! The recent drop in their share price was the result of some international projects being postponed until 2001. The key word here is "postponed." If the projects had been cancelled, that would truly be bad news. The approval of those projects to start will bring a 40% return to GLBL without any other news, in my opinion.

Like you, I'm hopefull of KEG being successful in the land service area. KEG's debt seems to be a ball and chain for them. Additional capex will need to be raised to put more of their idle equipment to work. If they can keep their act together, they have a lot of room to run.

VRC? A quality company. A late cycle play. A laggard. Good management. Fiscally responsible. All the good things you want in a company. The question here is, does this cycle move far enough ahead for VRC's manufacturing side of the business to do it's thing? If it does, woo woo!

I don't have a fifth pick. I haven't followed the pipes. I haven't looked at the boats or seismics in a while.

Regarding the offshore drillers, I know FLC is a favorite around here, but don't be surprised if PDE outperforms da dirty bird.

Damn them API's!
