At least FICA forces you to (IN THEORY) pay into a system that will help you live in your old age.

Thats the theory, but there have been plenty of studies showing that a 25-year old who puts 10K/year into this system will receive a negative return over his/her lifetime, if they get anything at all.

This in contrast to the current system recipients and the next few generations who paid almost nothing and are receiving large returns. This is the same as the much-hated welfare, but worse - it is more money (much more) and not need-based.

My general point is that for all this tax cut rhetoric, what I usually discover is that people that are so against "handouts" (as is stated clearly in this thread) have NO problem accepting a handout if it is doled out to them in the form of the current fica/SS system.

So if some politician is going to get tough on "handouts" and go on a tax revolt spree, and they start with FICA I say bravo, otherwise its merely political posturing and both political parties are running on the same platform as Barb says.
