Razzin' Frazzin' No Good %*^%$#@%!!!

I've been hiding behind my keyboard just waiting to grab the #29,000 post. I leave for 10 minutes and 30 posts fly up here...

Drats!

:^)

Actually, I've been very busy.
In between being busy, I've been doing tons of DD on Fiber Optics.

I have a few favorites.
However, I'm torn between:

1)Putting a lump of money on them and then torturing myself for days upon days with the wild fluctuations.

or

2)Attempting to play momentum stocks on the long and short side. This would probably require much more time, studying charts etc.

The more I read our friends over at the G&K thread, the more sense, they make to me.
However, I tend to agonize about these fluctuations too much.

I'm tempted to try doing both again...

One problem that I'm having is that the stocks that I like the most, are not yet gorillas.

From reading tons and tons of links over the last few days, I'm getting a picture of how the internet may run in the next few years.

I find I'm really getting hooked into the story behind Avanex (AVNX).
They may revolutionize the way information is sent over the fiber optic network.

Right now, data is sent in little packets and are directed through various routers and switches until it gets to where it is supposed to go.
This is done via wire lines and fiber.

Fiber lines allow the greatest bandwidth.
There are several switches and routers who can tranfer a great deal of packeted information at very high speeds.
However, bottle necks occur because of the amount of packets that have to be processed.

What I've learned is that Avanex has a device called the PowerMux. It's able to take all the date sent to it in various frequencies and then send this stream just like a phone call to it's proper destination. There is comes out of another PowerMux back into a switch or router.
For example, if someone want to have a video conference now a camera takes the pictures and digitizes them. Then this data is broken up into packets and sent along with a bazillion other data packets from around the world. All along it's trip through the internet, these packets are read and directed from switch to switch, router to router until it gets to the other persons computer where the picture is seen.
This is not a very efficient way to utilize the bandwidth.

What AVNX's PowerMux and other Devices do is take the data coming from the teleconference and send it in a constant stream from mux to mux to mux. Never having to read any packets. Until it gets to the other persons computer where the picture is viewed.

Now here is the neat part. Over 1 single fiber, the mux can send an entire spectrum of wavelengths/frequencies. So terrabits of information can travel across each fiber in the networks of MCI, Sprint, Global Networks, MFNX, etc. This is what the internet will require in the near future.

The best example of the difference between today's technology and AVNX's is to picture a running stream or babbling brook.
Avanex is similar to letting the water flow down the sloped banks of the stream and into the various offshoots of streams. The water goes in the direction of where gravity allows it to flow.
Today's technology, instead looks at every molecule of water and reads it and then tells it to continue flowing to the next fork in the brook. There it gets read again and told which way to go...

Avanex's system is much more superior than anyone elses.

I'm very excited about the fiber optic area.

If you know of any good links to AVNX information please send it to me.

In addition, if you have any promising companies you want to tell me about, I'm all ears.

I found that the "FrozenCanuck's FiberHead Friends" thread on The Motley fool to be a great source of information.
There are a lot of smart people there who help sort this stuff out.

I'm beginning to believe that this company will be huge in the coming years. I missed my chance at QCOM and many of these other high flyers. I think I may put a good portion of my money on them and then ride it out for the long run...

Please send me your links.
I'm in heavy DD mode now. I can't read enough.

Back to surfing for more info.

P.S. The above is just my opinion and I'm far from being a scientist or expert.
Please correct me if I said anything that is not accurate.

P.P.S. Rosie, a picture is worth a thousand words. However I'd still like to hear your story about meeting Harry.
Thanks Cowgirl and Horsegirl and everyone else for your stories.

P.P.P.S. Did I miss Polvie's story? I'm sure he's got a few.

P.P.P.P.S. They must have stopped paying Volty by the word.
We haven't gotten a good story out of him since the Beano days...
...just kiddin' Volty.

I'm sure you have some good ones, though...
