`We continue to benefit from accelerating demand for increased bandwidth as Internet usage continues to grow dramatically,'' Analog Devices Chief Executive Jerald Fishman said in a statement. ''We are also seeing strong
growth for products used in wireless infrastructure applications and wireless Internet appliances.''

Analog's strong third quarter runs counter to the concerns expressed by some analysts recently that the semiconductor industry's current boom cycle is approaching its peak. Fishman said Analog's year-over-year revenue growth in fiscal 2001 could exceed 45 percent.

Makers of chips used in telecommunications took a beating last month after one of their biggest customers, Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia Corp(NYSE:NOK - news), issued a profit warning for the third quarter."

Dear Pat,

The key phrase here is Internet usage continues to grow dramatically

Nokia doesn't announce earnings until October 26 (unconfirmed) so I wonder if their announcement several weeks ago about an earnings shortfall wasn't premature. Maybe, they won't have 60% earnings this quarter because, as they said, parts are scare. They might end up with 50% earnings though. At this time, who knows?

Cheers,

Mephisto
