You think that they run a brand new wire from the street to the computer at every install? Of course not. They
simply dont have the time.

If the stuff is already there in the house they use what is in the house. I sure hope they dont try to re-run the cable to my apartment. It could get ugly since its underground from the street and the cable plugs are on interior walls.

Is the guy who put the wires in 10 years ago any smarter than Joe?


That is precisely what they do. I don't have any religion with regards to the whole truck role issue but they do have better "stuff" now. The cable installers routinely pull everything out and replace it with new "stuff". It doesn't take long for an installer to string new cable. It's what they do. Automating the computer install ala AOL makes it easier. The cable guy just shows up and says "where do you want the jack". He's gone in 30 to 45 minutes.
