I disagree. It's all about the ego. Sure people mouth words about denying the ego, selflessness, yada yada yada- but what they REALLY want is to let their ego become even BIGGER by merging with other egos (which are exactly like them them them). It might look like destroying the self, but I no longer think it is. It DOES destroy the accountability of the self- which (imo) let's the ego get away with just about anything it wants. All groups, corporations, whatever- seem to have that sort of negative effect on individuals who merge their ego with a movement. A group identity bolsters the ego while also abrogating it of responsibility for group decisions.

Look at Fs- in his movement (no pun intended) he can forgive himself for anything he does. Ugh. No accountability there.
