Humans and issues are complex. They don't lend themselves to simplistic reductions as you've said. We've been around and around on "What did the Free Speech Movement really mean?". It's amazing how polarized people still are about that time. And it was 30 years ago. That and McCarthyism. BTW, the heir apparent of the acetone cannon is what I've called a "zoom-tube". I show it to my kids at 4th of July. Uses a propane torch as a carburetor, 3 foot schedule 40 PVC pipe for a cylinder, a 1.5 Liter Pepsi bottle for a flame chamber (made of nearly unbreakable PET). Will shoot a weighted, highly visible highlighter pen case (piston) to about 300 feet. Adult supervision recommended. Little or no external flame. No sparks. Probably considered illegal. I'll say it's a one cylinder, linear propane motor.
