The company announced that to date it has installed 25 base stations and 343 terminals stations in 11 cities across Poland. The cities include Warsaw, Katowice, Lodz, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Gdynia and Sopot. The company has a global agreement with Alcatel (CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) for a wide range of telecommunications equipment used in its communications networks in Poland and Europe. Formus Polska was the first company to deploy commercial broadband multipoint communications services in Poland and continues its network expansion as it completes its first year of operations in Poland’s deregulated telecommunications environment. Formus Polska’s broadband wireless (BWA) access network, operational in Warsaw since May 1999, provides customers with a variety of BWA services, including Internet access, high-speed data communications and video transmission to business customers. The company is seeking government approval to provide voice services in the future. The critical access network is built on Alcatel’s 7390 LMDS. The ATM switching network is deployed with the Omniswitch range. To complete the network, the IP routing plane is based on the 7410 Access Server. The Point to Multi-Point (PMP) access architecture was jointly engineered by Formus and Alcatel to achieve maximum flexibility and service reliability. formus.net - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - --- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - formus.net Formus Communications and its affiliates hold telecommunication licenses or operating authority covering over 132 million people in nine European countries including Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Finland, Norway, United Kingdom, and in Spain as part of the AbraRed consortium.
