Frank- Your post<vbg>. ....Maybe I should word it another way then. I wonder how many of those 200,000,000 lines make money for CLECs. Do you agree with Ray that it is indeed only about 3%? I just would have thought with all the noise going on between CLECs and ILECs that the CLEC would have made a more substantial gain by now.

Also would you happen to know how the tariff works if a LD company signs up a CLEC customer. Does the CLEC collect the same exact tariff from the LD SP that the ILEC would have?

As you probably know, we're talking $100,000,000,000/year for local service and another $100,000,000,000/year for LD.

Supposedly, and I could be very wrong, $50,000,000,000 of the local revenues are generated via the LD SPs. It's just hard to imagine this stunning sum is accurate. Would you know?

I'm just trying to get a feel for how these stunning sums are distributed. -MikeM(From Florida)
_____________

LD- long distance
SP- service provider
CLEC- competitive local exchange carrier
ILEC- incumbent local exchange carrier

Hi Frank,

Having a bad day with Verizon? :)

After all the brouhaha we've had since the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and all the hoopla about the CLECs, they still represent a trivial percentage of the overall local access market. Even if I'm off by 100% in my figure on CLEC penetration, its still a game that belongs to the ILECs.

As far as answering your questions, I tried to get a tour of my local USW CO a while back. That went over like the proverbial lead balloon with the supervisor here. It is definitely a "sectets of the temple" world, so don't count on me to answer a single one of you questions. You're on your own there, fella..... <vbg>
