In May, 1996 I published an article titled "The Dark Side of Deregulation' in Public Utilities Fortnightly warning of these reliability problems with electric generation. My article were debated in California but eventually ignored as the politicians had already made up their minds to proceed without adequate analysis of the consequences. Not surprisingly ,these same politicians are now blaming the utilities for California's power shortages. Do we have one single courageous politician left in this nation?-Frank

O/T California--Thanks, Jon, for letting us sweltering
Texans find greater peace about what we're missing by not living in the land of milk & honey . . . and also of Willie Brown, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, et al. I particularly liked the notion that rolling back rates while inviting companies to build more plants is a solution. And they wonder "What went wrong?" They could use some mirrors, but instead they'll probably ask Al Gore.
