Saturn, RE: If you are correct, Beta becomes a measure of the "volatility of the stock" vs the "volatility of the Dow". Since Intel is now a part of the Dow , and if the Beta is measured with respect to the Dow, you would expect Intel's Beta to have dropped a little.

Actually, if Intel's beta was less than 1, you would expect its beta to rise after it was added to the Dow, at least if the Dow is used as your measure for the market.

FWIW, most services calculate beta using the S&P 500 as a proxy for the market.
