Association is in the mind of the beholder. As the old saying goes, "If the shoe fits, wear it." African slavery was usually not for a lifetime, but as far as I'm concerned any slavery of one individual over another is evil. Whether they had slavery or not does not justify or pardon the great, hypocritical and immoral mistake made by our Founding Fathers when the did not insist that every person who wanted to be a citizen of the new country should be included with all the rights, privileges and responsibilities that went with being an American.
