Raj,

>>This is wrong, wrong, wrong (sorry to say, I know you are getting allergic to this word for some reason). If you know only the very basics of GPRS you know that it uses THE VERY SAME channels than voice, using that excess capacity that voice is not using at that very moment.<<

This is my point exactly. GPRS just gangs time slots to achieve through put. While GPRS is using those time slots they cannot be used for voice. We will have the opportunity to compare the speed and efficiency of GPRS to 1X in commercial applications soon. My guess is that by then you will disappear again.

Rajala,

Compare these recent press releases.

NORTEL NETWORKS CORP - Telstra Demonstrate Highest
'Live' GPRS Data Rate
Tue Jun 27 08:47:00 EDT 2000

Toronto, Ontario, Jun. 27, 2000 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- Nortel
Networks and Telstra have recorded a world first, demonstrating live Wireless
Internet applications at speeds in excess of 50 kilobits per second (kbps) on a
live GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) system, more than five times the speed
currently available over GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) digital
wireless networks.

QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology,
today announced the successful completion of the world's first third-generation (3G) CDMA 1x Multi-Carrier (1x) wireless data transmissions
featuring up to 153 kilobits per second (kbps) on both forward and reverse channels.

Obviously GPRS does not currently have comparable speed to 1X.
