I briefly stopped in Circuit City in Poughkeepsie N.Y. today. I saw Athlon based systems from Compaq and H.P. from 800MHz to 1GHz.
They were attempting to clear out the Compaq systems and were offering a 1GHz system for $1899. 900MHz system for $1499. The salesman said these were discontinued models (Classics?) and that they would be getting new systems (T Birds?) in a few weeks. I saw no P3 systems above 733MHz. The place was awash with Celerons and low MHz P3s. No K62 desktops. I only saw one 500MHz K62 H.P. notebook. Every other notebook was Celeron or P3. Apple was also well represented. Even an E machine. I sure hope AMD can make the quarter with just the high end offerings. It would be infinitely better if there were 600MHz to 750Mhz Durons systems for the low end. Same for AMD notebook offerings. Huge lost opportunity there in my opinion. But, I suppose it just might make the fourth quarter and next year even sweeter. I guess it takes time.
