It also depends on how private your cards are. The world is not a poker game, and all too often the cards are public knowledge. When they are, a bluff is not a smart move.

In Vietnam, for example, the bottom line reality was that no vital American interest was served, and commitment was therefore fundamentally limited. Our enemy knew this as well as we did - maybe better - and knew that attrition would eventually work. Not a good hand from which to bluff.

I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself.
