FWIW, The Register had a little quote on Dell and X86-64:

So afterwards, and noting that he'd also predicted a long life for the "x86architecture", we asked him if his enthusiasm for both Linux and x86extended to AMD's x86-64 architecture - which had just been blessed with its first OS support from SuSE. His answer is worth reproducing verbatim.

"We will be selling x86 64-bit servers. In fact we're demonstrating them today - they're Itanium based," he said. "Will we sell products based on the AMD 64-bit? That's to be determined. We don't have any parts today."

Looks like Anand knows about some big news that will be coming out of the IDF next week

Maybe it has something to do with this.....VERY Interesting News On P4:

ixbt-labs.com

"By the way, the Israeli FAB18 is already busy manufacturing Pentium 4, though the clock frequency of these CPUs is far beyond the previously promised one. If you remember, they were planning to offer us 1.2-1.4GHz, while in reality it makes 1.7GHz!

Pravin, sidebar on that Anand note: >Next week is IDF (Intel Developers Forum) which I, unfortunately, won't be able to cover because it is also my first week of classes at NCSU.

North Carolina State U? I wonder where he lives. That fella ought to be going to Cal or Stanford. But I'm just a Left Coast bigot now. If he does attend NCSU, that's pretty far from the action out here.
