This is just a rehash of the story from The Register some weeks ago which even Elmer didn't believe in.

Andreas

Could you please point me to the Reg story that said that Israel's F18 was making P4, and that they were at 1.7GHz, because I don't recall seeing that.

Thanks
SemiconEng

P.S.-They got the F18 part correct.....For Sure.

<edit>
Oh wait, I found it, and actually, the Reg was quoting what Bert McComas said. Seems to me like he's been pretty accurate:

theregister.co.uk

Pentium 4 to hit 2GHz next year

An update to the Intel desktop roadmap seen by Bert McComas, senior analyst at InQuest, has revealed how seriously the firm is viewing increased competition from both AMD and Via.

McComas says that the Pentium 4 will support 2x and 4x data rate models for the frontside bus, allowing bandwidths of 1.6Gbps, 2.1Gbps, 3.2Gbps and 4.26Gbps.

He didn't mention Fab18 though, which makes me think that the other story got their information from a different source. Two sources telling the same story......

:-)

Re: If you remember, they were planning to ship 1.2-1.4GHz, while in reality it makes 1.7GHz!

Sounds fishy to me. An ALU clocked at 3.4 GHz on Intel's Al process? I suspect that Intel is trying to pull another fast one here (along the lines of redefining capital gains as income).

Can we all agree in advance that should it transpire this Willy is actually externally clocked at 850 MHz but Intel are quoting the internal clock speed of the double pumped Willy ALU, we would consider this to be a slimy and underhand move?
