May be the nature of investment made by AMZN and SBUX was not exactly the same. Either way, what is a few hundred million dollar write off for AMZN... It thinks big.. in billions. ;)

Glenn, I don't understand this. Could you clarify it for me?
>Amazon.com escapes charge
Amazon.com Inc. said it won't take a charge for its stake in Living.com, the failed Internet
furniture store that also was backed by Starbucks Corp. Starbucks said it would record a
$20.6 million pretax charge related to its investment. The closely held furniture store, which
plans to file for bankruptcy, was one of several Web sites that Amazon.com agreed to
market for a fee.

James,

I am sorry I cannot. I believe you need to speak with Bezos. He is now talking about Amazon turing a profit in 2010 or at least hitting at that. Does that mean we have to wait 10 more years to see how this plays out?;-)
