Buying calls on gold companies would be throwing your money away. While the premiums may not be that high, out of the money calls would be a crap shoot since the price of the producers would have to move up to the strike price in a defined period of time. Todays action in the xau demonstrates that little investor money is available to provide the momentum for the producers to move much higher indicating a high probability that the options would expire worthless.
