re: That's a FACT

now that is a strong statement. Can you explain why that is the FACT.

Paul,

Intel's 0.18 micron ALuminum Process is BETTER than AMD's 0.18 micron Copper Topper

If AMD marketing had of chosen an oscillator that ran at 1.14GHz, and had they chosen to quote the speed to three significant digits, then I suppose that AMD's process would be faster?

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at Intel the day they came up with the "clever" idea of quoting 1.13GHz.

Dear Paul:

Re: Intel supposed process advantage

BULL!

Intel can not run P3 at 1.13G at anything more than a Tj of 62C. On a shrunk process no less! Their process can only run 0.866G at a Tj of 90C on 0.18u. On 0.18*0.9 (10% shrink in documentation on C0 stepping) or 0.162u, how fast could they run at a Tj of 90C? Even P3@0.933G needs a Tj of 75C, thus, the Tj @ 90C speed is even less.

Given these speeds, even a 900MHz Tbird on 0.18u Al outruns Intel's vaunted process. AMD has stated that 0.18 Cu runs 1G@90C in volumes that Intel cannot deliver for the 1G@70C (There are 63 listings for 1G Athlons (K75 Al, Tbird Al, Tbird Cu (mostly Tbird Cu per Sanders)) (mostly in stock) to 7 listings for 1G P3s (none in stock) on Pricewatch). There is no real contest at all between AMD 1.1G@90C vs Intel 1.13G@62C. From Gigabyte's doc, Tbirds@1.13G@90C are sampling with AMD 760 chipsets as well.

To repeat, Intel's 0.162u Al process is slower than AMD's 0.18u Cu process. That is why they are going 0.13u Cu ASAP.
