I am raising my kids because they cannot raise themselves. They had to be taught empathy. They had to be taught NOT to hurt animals AND each other. My daughter's impulse was to bite her baby brother (she was consumed with jealousy). She had to be taught that that was WRONG. Of course nothing is really wrong outside the human context - imo. But in my scheme of things what makes the world more humane is good. And CHILDREN are poor arbiters of what is humane. Whether you believe that or not, it is born out by the evidence. If you choose to ignore evidence and proceed on your own internal theory in the face of what is observed, I would have to say that is evidence of insanity. Which, really, wouldn't surprise me. Take that to your bank. I have a great deal of faith that my children will grow up to be adults I can be proud of. I have very little faith they could do that without adult guidance.
