Todd, as one who types as fast as lots of folks think--never mind talk--I wish I were there with you so I could have transcribed your Putnam interview. Nonetheless, beyond such an expert capability, I think you did an excellent job parlaying the Putnam communication. Good job!

Todd,

Nice job on summarizing both the key issues raised by the company's shareholders and the response from management.

The share price is steadily rising today, reflecting the value of such clear communication:

stockpoint.com

The stock is now about 125% above its level from one year ago, far surpassing the returns of any of the major indices.

Looking at a two year time frame (relevant to most of us long-term holders) the stock is now almost exactly 50 times the price that it was at on August 17, 1998.

How many stocks do you suppose will generate a 125% return over the next twelve months? Yet most here would be very disappointed if EDIG was only at $8.75/share by the end of this year, let alone twelve months from now.

A short conversation with Robert Putnam 8/17/00

I emailed Mr. Putnam earlier today with a transcript of the post I put up last night, after our
previous conversation. He emailed back asking me to call him, which I just did. He thanked me
for disseminating the information we spoke about accurately and had only one clarification to
make to the post. I have listed it below in bold...

Q: In the past, the phrase ''double digit'' has been used to number the OEM's we have
interested in the reference design
player, as generated by both EDIG and Maycom. Is this still accurate, or are OEM's migrating
toward more simple
solutions (MP3 or single codec players) in light of the lack of significant content being
released by the labels? Of course an
interested party does not necessarily equal a revenue generating contract. Can you comment
at all on how many of these
"interested parties" can be considered "done deals" at this time?

A:No, EDIG cannot discuss the status of the individual relationships, even generally saying
something like,
"There are 4 done deals". The "double digits" phrase was a broad guideline from early on to
give people the
understanding that EDIG was working with a significant number of companies, rather than
depending on one
or two relationships. The "double digits" includes negotiations, deals, consultations, etc., a
whole range of
relationships. The OEM's are not migrating to simple players, and in fact are going to strive
to distinguish
themselves with unique feature sets, which is where the MicroOS shines.

That's it, folks. He stated that everything else was pretty much accurate. I would not read that
as him endorsing my embedded, stated, speculations, but as a verification of the essence of
our conversation. I have seen numerous people people today placing specific meanings on the
phrases that I used to describe the conversation. Let me say that NO ANSWER in that original
post is verbatim from Robert, but is, as I stated in the first paragraph, my own synopsis. I am
sorry if there was any confusion about this. The important thing now is that Mr. Putnam has
just verified the content and intent as posted. As mentioned above, he had one change. He
said, and I quote, "I would add an "s" to deal"

He also said that content was really starting to roll out, and that OEM's were starting to move.
I asked about the embedded systems conference coming up in Sept, and he said that EDIG
would not in fact be there. He went on to say that their focus is music in the short term, and
that they believed they would have "more than one" (I say it this way because I cannot
remember if he said several or multiple or what his phrase was...and I don't want to mislead
anybody....it was definitely more than one though! LOL) player shown at Comdex in November.
To me that implies OEM announcements soon, but you can draw your own conclusions.

I asked him about the Crusoe chip being the "hybrid" we had discussed before, and while he
said he could make no real comment on it, he stated that it was an expensive chip costing $80
per handheld. My impression was that Crusoe does not figure highly in EDIG's relationships.

That was about it. I didn't come to the table with more questions, because I had already asked
the ones I had last night. IMHO, he was just calling to say thanks for getting the (accurate)
information out there, and giving me the additional "s" for the effort. Nice guy.

He said that he is happy to speak with anybody with questions, so I recommend that anybody
with doubts/issues/concerns give him a call. He is a pleasure to speak with and he has
answers if you'll only ask the questions. DD is not just reading the boards....
