Sounds pretty commie to me... All that "to each ... from each" stuff. I want that 90 year-old quadruple amputee up at dawn, scrubbing latrines with a toothbrush held in his teeth. If he wasn't careful enough to keep his arms and legs which were at one point attached (not attached at one point though), then he should be grateful to be suckling at the scullery sink getting whatever nutrients he can get.

Things like SocSec and AFDC are called entitlements - whether they "really are" entitlements is not a can a worms I wanted to open.

As individuals we are bound to have very different ideas of value for the dollar. So to come to a quasidemocratic consensus will be difficult. Worse, I have the sneaking hunch that a democratic consensus will always be skewed toward those who want the state to take care of them. But then I AM getting old and mean.
