I hope....but, during the last energy crisis the polititians chose to levy a windfall-profit tax on the producers.

Bush/Cheaney would certainly do the "right" thing, but even though Gore holds a ton of OXY I could see him pushing any resources/credits toward alternative energy sources.

Personally it doesn't matter what they do short term. If they simply make the "energy crisis" an issue it should bring more mo mo players to this sector.

No chance before the election, IMO. The political constituencies in the democrat party are way too far to the left to lay down for what they think they can win votes with by painting it as welfare for the big oil companies and wealthy oilmen.

And because the liberals control the TV networks run out of NYC, the republicans are afraid, AS USUAL, to argue the issue as they have been with many other important issues.
