I am currently trying to figure out the sell-side procurement opportunity as this looks interesting. BVSN announced a partnership with Commerce One a week or two ago. We shall have to see if ARBA takes Chuck Phillips' other client Vignette to the altar for sell-side B2B infrastructure. I think VIGN's acquisition of OnDisplay is looking real good at this point in this regard.

This BEA 'custom development off the best app server' stuff is also getting interesting. BEA is trying to be the Oracle of the app server except that they aren't making the strategic error of ramping internal services efforts and pissing off the Big 5. BEA is looking good, IMO. This BEA/IBM/ATG/BVSN war is going to be fun to watch. Hopefully we get at least as much dirty play as the Oracle/Informix/Sybase database war.

Vignette was early to realize that this war isn't going to be much fun in the long-run and has taken a different path. However, BEA appears eager to eat everyone's lunch. VIGN's B2C exposure hurt its Q2 but with an Ariba partnership and some B2B momentum, all might be forgiven.
