I'm not real into clubs or gangs, but I'll send you a check for your campaign. How's that?

And, not to quibble right off, but as I prefer living in a motherland, III and Maternal Protection.

And there are those who with training, blahblah, can rise above, and those who will always need protection. Some folks just can't take care of themselves to a level that most of us would think of as even subsistance. It partly depends on how we define ourselves as a society and people.

My, I'm petering out. The brain hurts. Where's Rambi with the beer?

And please, feel free to join my new Libertarian Socialist party. Libertarian- for social behavior- I HATE governments that try to tell self sufficient productive people how to act in terms of their personal lives- no CODES of morality. You can take drugs, and do whatever you want to sexually. But Socialist, because it is my opinion that people who are NOT self sufficient need to be taken care of in a paternal way. So it's a two track system- take care of yourself=almost absolute freedom and responsibility (but no hurting others now!) on the other hand, failure to care for yourself=paternal protection unitl you can learn how to do so.

I guess the exception is how self sufficient, productive folk earn and use their money. That IS your business. We self sufficient types need a lot of help with our priorities. Thank god we have a beneficent father in D.C. Just one leap of denial required: Confiscation of wealth to give to others is criminal whether you do it with a baseball bat or by threat of jail.

I guess that's the price we pay for the harmony achieved over the years? How we ever got along without government largesse I don't know.

I imagine you might say we didn't and that misery was rampant. I'd reply that our war on poverty didn't solve a thing. You reply that not enough was done and not enough spent. I reply that you sound like a public school apparatchik whining about lack of funds to explain the horrendous results. Or like a true Marxist lamenting that socialism has never really been tried.

Why would Xdom's tax and spend program have any better results? How are you going to make one capable of working wanna work? Perhaps you could use the prisons, now quite properly vacant of drugees and prostitutes, as reeducation camps. Sounds a little Spartan for your plan, though.

For those who still don't get it - Can work, don'wanna... What? Permanent title to a cell? Would that have cable and an IP? Buy 'em a condo in the town of their or your choosing? Free pass to the grocery store? Could you please include a car with that? I need to drive to the clinic to get my fix and cruise around. Oh, and the reeducation classes.

How would you keep your operatives from forming bureaucratic fiefdoms? All these minions you send out to do X's good work, my god, they'll have no jobs if they actually solved the problem assuming there was a solution. Name a single example of a government program that was formed to solve a social problem, then go away. The sooner, the better. Why, that's bureaucratic suicide. No, the nature of it is is that those in need are needed and the criterion for need will change according to the "needs" and budget of the program. Plus, guess who all these "needy" vote for. More big spenders.

Not to say your pet idea isn't grand and perhaps worth trying. I have a pet idea I would like to see adopted which would involve essentially a crash, Apollo like, program to research and cure cancer and AIDs. Heck I know a couple of people with M.S. Throw that in there, too. Unfortunately, it seems folks with these afflictions are less deserving than those afflicted with indigence. Don't have the power quite to reach into all our pockets.

I guess I could form an alliance of like thinking individuals and we could tithe to our favorite causes. Maybe even on just a local basis, not federal. It does involve an unsettling component of free will, might even fail, but it won't involve theft. Naaaa, altruistic theft is easier.
