The ZAP WAP FLAP reviewed: "Pulling the Internet's Plug"

Here's a Network Magazine article that tries to answer the question: "So what is WAP good for?". Conclusions are, well, left to the imagination... as you might expect from the skeptic's camp. (Hey, I've been a camp follower for a while on this one.) In an half-hearted attempt at fairness, I'll let you know there is another article in the same issue that's far more bullish on the WAP paradigm, but I've lost that URL....

For those who like to peek at the end of their novels and murder mysteries, here's the punchline:

“WML is pretty ropy,” says Mike Banahan, managing director of Web design
consultancy GBDirect. He constructs sites for both the regular and mobile Web
and is in no doubt about which is best. “People used to HTML browsers will be
extremely frustrated if they get suckered by the hype about surfing the Internet
from your mobile phone,” he says.
