fundamentally I don't "get" gold. I can't even figure out why it is called an inflation hedge. As near as I can determine gold as an inflation hedge is a remnant from the gold standard of years ago. Now gold has few meaningful uses and costs more to dig up than it is worth. I must be missing something... what though

I am buying it because the chart is suggesting a bottom. And with my upcoming bout with painkillers, I want to be positioned in something that isn't going down. I do think that the market is risky and with the USD hitting a top, I am thinking that gold might be moving up a bit.
