I almost think that a G* phone shouldn't be sold without a kit, be it a car kit, a marine kit or maybe-future airplane kit. Almost, but not quite, because I wouldn't have a G* phone yet. But I do think that the phone-kit combos should be what the SPs should push, and only offer a phone by itself in some asterisk-accessile paragraph like data on Australia roaming on the G*USA roaming coverage map. A G* phone's usefulness in a car is very limited without a car kit. But with a car kit installed, the phone can always be on in G* mode (or cellular mode) without draining the phone's battery, can receive calls; even placing calls would be easier. Yes, I agree that people would use their G* phone a lot more in their car or SUV or whatever if they installed a car kit. That would be a lot more MOUs sold. And the combo only costs $1,700. Surely the SPs could sell that if they wanted to. Not to Joe Cellular, but to Entrepreneur Cellular, Stockbroker Cellular, Traveling-saleman Cellular. I even made up an ad for them to use, and posted it earlier. Now, before you ask. I haven't bought a car kit. I seldom make phone calls, and I love being where no-one can phone me. And I drive a clunker. Maybe on my next car, I'll install one. The first time I get stuck in a blizzard and have to hold my phone out the window to await a return phone call, I'll regret not installing a car kit. But until then I always carry my phone with me - in case I get stuck in a tree top like that 83 year old woman did recently (three days before someone spotted her and got help); although I expect that at 83 I'll still be able to climb out of a tree, one never knows. Yes, my birth year was 1946, not 1846; I still have 83 to look forward to. Have a great weekend, and go easy on the cheap stuff <g>. I'll try to take my own advice too.
