Very OT / Though know up strongly ytd, to be honest, don't know how much because odd as it may sound found it's better for me: 1. Not to pay any attention to the total $$ value of my acct or 2. The total net appreciation of the acct for the year till am forced to do so after year end. Discovered to my surprise that when I used focus on those things, (oh, 10 - 15 yrs ago) it became a mental magnet in a way that took my mental focus away from the only thing that could really make me consistent and serious money. Complete concentration on stock selection, and the tape. Once that became my sole preoccupation it was ONLY WHAT to buy or sell and WHEN to do it. The rest is all noise till yr end. For qtrly tax payments all I do is make a wild guess and laugh<G>. That's why am always making light of my own admitedly eccentric investment style as " iso's loose cannon investing". While it works very well for a seat of the pants, instinct player like me would certainly drive the good numbers, detail type folks (who also do extremely well as investors) completely crazy. But to me that's what makes the investment game fascinating and really good discussion forums like this own so worthwhile. You really begin to appreciate the different styles and temperments of other successful people. In fact, looking back on my business history, most of the people I've worked best with are somewhat more detail oriented, quasi-scientific people. What did Sly Stallone(sp?) call it in Rocky One? "...fill gaps.". Question, maybe off topic: What's your guess as to how long before we see a big pick-up in speculative buying and selling of small to medium size land rigs? Or is that already occuring in the hot NG basins in spite of crew shortages? Or do you only broker the big offshore stuff? TIA. Isopatch
