Buy chip stocks, Merrill

The Phlx Semiconductor Index ($SOX: news, msgs) is adding 1.5 percent, and is now up 18 percent this week. Analyst Joe Osha at Merrill Lynch said in a research report that recent concerns over the chip industry are beginning to dissipate. Osha believes the mid-cycle correction of the group has ended and advises investors to begin buying chip stocks "more aggressively." He is particularly interested in companies in the communications and foudry business. Among the stocks he suggests focusing on, Texas Instruments (TXN: news, msgs) is gaining 1 3/4 to 69 1/4, Cypress Semiconductor (CY: news, msgs) is 1 7/16 higher 46 1/4, Atmel (ATML: news, msgs) is tacking on 9/16 to 36 1/16, National Semiconductor (NSM: news, msgs) is rising 1 13/16 to 43 7/8, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM: news, msgs) is edging up 1/2 to 36 and Chartered Semiconductor (CHRT: news, msgs) is 1 3/4 better at 85 5/8.
