A bomb shell set off in LU on soft switching technology resulting in management realignment. The problem lies in misunderstanding of technology, not management.

As fiber optical wavelength division multiplexers go to the extreme limits of laser diodes' maximum frequency achievable(44 ghz by Bell labs' past report around 1991); the ability of soft switching packet reading is impossible to be handled except by embedded real time interceptor concept. Over hundreds of DSPs(1 ghz) may be needed to intercept and process successive synchronized packets successfully.

Since ANTC and NT are in this business also. I hope ANTC management will start another joint venture to design and build large scale "interceptors" for wavelength division multiplexers. This field is totally non-existent for really high speed and multiple wave transmissions. Only recent developments in submicron technology and new DSPs(asic and risc core) made the concept even feasible.

Good luck, ANTC management.
