. A step for Dell would be to go with SUNW on the standards issue. Dell may have trouble getting cooperation from SUNW on the OS while at the same time trying to grab their workstation and server market share. It may work best for Dell to let Red Hat serve as an intermediary. I think Linux could be a good fit for Dell, although I don't think Linux will ever take off until there is some distribution model that makes it easier for application developers to get paid for their work.
