Hi Tom:

I partially agree on Gilder. In my readings my understanding (and words) is he feels disruptive technologies can take over the entrenched technologies. He is right to a point and if the past is any guide many entrenched companies are not nimble enough or forsighted enought to embrace the new technologies which eat their bread and butter business. I think his opinion is if the new product is X factor better in performance / price it will displace the existing product / technology. I agree with this.

There are many past examples with IBM, DEC, etc.. In these companies management and buracratic practices hindered their ability to compete with new technologies.

Now on CSCO to date management, starting with Chambers, has shown the ability to embrace new technologies and acquire talent to complement / enhance existing operations. I don't beleive they have the bunker mentality that it needs to be invented by CSCO. I don't see current management letting up any time soon on being #1 or #2 with goal of being #1 in their markets / products.

Just some rambling comments. I have enjoyed reading Gilder but he can be 5 years early on the tech.
