Hi Don,

I don't have real numbers to back this up, but August tends to be a traditionally slow month (vacations). If I remember correctly total monthly volume for September has generally been higher (5 to 10%) compared to August. The only recent exception was in 98 when the Sep vol was flat to slightly lower than Aug.

How do you know that the volume will be back after the FOMC meeting? Is it a gut feeling or something technical.

For the last three years volume has picked up at the end of August going forward into Sept/Oct...

I see no reason why this pattern won't be repeated... Add to that the probable end to the interest rate cycle, and you have a very strong argument for "scared money" to return to equities...
