The only reason I said to format it, was to use it as a second drive once you moved all your data to your C:.

Once you have your data copied onto C: you can toss the drive in the garbage if you want, or use it as a second hard drive.

If you use a null modem cable, you are going to take a long time to transfer data. It all depends on the amount of data you have. If you are talking hundreds of MB, count on many hours.

LapLink ...

I bought a copy of LapLink over a decade ago and paid about $70 for it. Most software prices came down since then and I would expect this package would too. It was also a joy to use.

Drive activity.

Remove disk from old PC, assuming it's 'C' in the old PC.

Install disk in new PC, assuming current new PC disk is 'C', the added disk from the old PC would be seen as 'D' in the new PC.

Copy stuff from 'D' to 'C' at lightening speed and with unfathomable convenience.

Now you have two copies of SOME data, the new copy on 'C' and the original copy on 'D'.

Since you probably don't need two copies of the same stuff, and since extra disk space has value, you may choose to erase the original data.

To do this quickly, thoroughly, and conveniently, use FORMAT command. (FORMAT /Q) That way, all hidden, read-only, and system files get removed without extra effort from you.

If you do this, you'll have an extra, blank, hard disk available for whatever you choose.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, PW.
