EVERY corporate expense depresses wages in one way or another. Employers pay worker comp insurance, medical benefits, life insurance, unemployment taxes, etc for every employee. I wouldn't bundle the employer's portion of FICA when talking about an employee's tax because then we'd need to add in all the other expenses related to carrying that employee to be consistent.

The employee FICA rate is 7.65% up to $76,200 and 1.45% thereafter.

Self-employed pay both the employee and employer cost, 15.3% to 76,200 and 2.9% thereafter.
