John, re: "aren't we simply agreeing that many different disciplines can converge in one portfolio?" Yes, you have a good point there, imho. I hadn't thought of it quite that way. When many disciplines converge also on one stock - for example MRVC - the positive technology applications, the favorable industry segment, the technical analyses (I may be wrong about the current TA- I don't follow it), the value investor's sum-of-parts analyses, the trading opportunities with its volatility -- these combine, imo, to make a superior investment because the stock can be attractive to all investors/speculators/traders.

Regarding LDP. It took me all of 3 minutes to decide to make an initial investment in LDP when I came across it. That's all the dd that was necessary, imo. (It was lots cheaper then, and maybe easier to figure the undervaluation.) As I learned more about the company, I've invested more. And by following YOUR dd - a complete as possible listing of the value of every LDP holding - I continued to add and hold. (well, maybe with a little trading in there in the 401 -g-).
MRVC wasn't/isn't so easy. But back then, it did not require weeks of analyses. Imo.

Paul, who offers this disclaimer:
Lest I give the impression I actually know what's what regarding LDP, MRVC or stocks in general, I will add right now: I have been wrong many, many times before.
