Mani,

I attended the Transmeta presentations at Hot Chips this week, and was quite impressed with their technology. It changed my opinion of the company very dramatically.

Mani, Re: Transmeta flirting with AMD and 1GHz

Great find! In the ON24 interview Jerry was IMO relatively negative about Transmeta (at least he gave no indication of an impending deal) but if it is true it's great news. AMD really has a problem with their power-consumption (the mobile Durons/Thunderbirds are targeted at around 20W), so they could use Transmeta technology for the low-end where power consumption matters and their "flagship technology" (Thunderbid, >1 Ghz) for the high performance laptops. Oh, and this deal would also be good from a competitive standpoint IMO. It would give the street the indication that AMD had (combined with Transmetas efforts) a very good chance to compete against Intel or even dominate together the mobile market in the future.
