Carter appointed judge was the source of the grand jury leak:

While discussing the extension, which was released Thursday by the three-judge panel, "the judge inadvertently referred to the existence of a newly-empaneled grand jury," Cudahy's statement said. "This fact, previously undisclosed, has led to considerable controversy, based on its timing." Indeed, Democrats criticized the timing of the legal developments involving President Clinton because they were made public on the day Vice President Al Gore was accepting his party's nomination at the Democratic National Convention.

Cudahy on Friday disclosed his role, "with apologies to all concerned," said the statement released by Cudahy's office. He came forward because of "the nature of the controversy," the statement said.

Ish:

Then again, what happened 25 years ago ... might still be happening ... now. Today. As we speak.

Or maybe it happened 27 times 25 years ago. Or 1,000 times, and not once. I don't know and neither do you. That's why it's important for GWB to be candid about his past.

Lest we forget, the Republicans crucified VP candidate Tom Eagleton in '72 because someone spilled the beans that he had undergone electric shock therapy earlier in his life.

That revelation effectively disqualified a very good man from the ticket, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's father-in-law got the nod instead.

No, the real reason that GWB supporters don't want GWB to reveal details of his "wild 20s" is that they're afraid. They're afraid of what happened in '72 to Tom Eagleton.

That and the fact that there are people locked up in the Texas penitentiary for cocaine-related offenses.
