Mike - RE: "I believe AMD announced that the 1.1 Ghz chips would be available on August 28th. Why do you expect Compaq and Gateway to start selling the systems before then?"

I guess I didn't read the press release carefully enough...

But why does AMD feel the need to announce two weeks early? Apparently, Jerry Sanders was interviewed and he trashed Intel's paper 1GHz release, and just a day or two before the interview AMD fake launched 1.1GHz. Maybe AMD's new launch strategy is to just announce when shipments to OEMs have begun. That is how the Duron was launched and how 1.1Ghz was launched. I don't like that strategy. 1GHz was available the day it was launched. Why did AMD change their policy? I guess I'm just a stickler for consistency.

To ALL, Please do help me!!!

It is probably about time that I upgrade my stable of K-6 166's to 200's to Thunderbird 950's . They are apparently the best value choices on price watch. I am slightly out of touch as the age of my stable does indicate. What motherboards are the best choices? What caveats should I observe on box/powersupplies choices? I am relatively sure that I will go with IBM IDE hard drive of some sort. I also expect to buy only a package that includes a heat sink and fan assembly that is guaranteed as AMD chosen and for no less than one year. Vendor choice may well help me though I have some that have served me well in the past.

I am also in no hurry whatsoever if any of you know of some compelling reason to wait for ready availability of a motherboard that is about to come "down the pike" that is worth waiting for.

All guidance will be very greatly appreciated.

Regards,

DARBES
