Hi Greg
I try to keep up with trends in software but unlike last year I'm not sure how to make money on it yet. I saw an analyst on cnbc yesterday say there are "questions" about further gains in software stocks from here. They are pretty much all 25-50% below their highs unlike some other sectors like comm which have bounced back.

Anyway here are a few things going on fwiw,

- outsourced b2b hosting/services
a private company bowstreet is doing this and some others, the winner could be as big as exds, maybe ntap (hardware company) a beneficiary?

- b2bi/EAI companies for backoffice integration
these are companies that have a product composed of: workflow piece, xml mapper, some kind of transaction integrity across the web, adapter layer into ERPs. My favorite is webm but tibco, vitr, beas and private companies electron economy are out there, and then Ajuba and others are doing some piece (workflow) probably expecting to get acquired.

- bea weblogic server showing up as core technology in the integrators
modeln.com
electroneconomy use bea weblogic

- broadvision and anybody not Java declining
J2EE apparently takes care of some web integrity issues and if your core offering is not Java you are going to have to redo the whole thing to get this functionality.

- v-XML showing up in b2b
I own a little nuan for this, of course that is a very hyped up stock but I'm playing it anyway. Here is an exchange that wants voice enable mygazoo.com you can tell what they are doing when you look at job postings, thats a trick I use.
