An eye for an eye, I say. Harsh but, life is that way.

GZ, no criticism from me. I agree with you!!
Too many of our children are not taught the difference between right and wrong. It becomes even more difficult when Hollywood glorifies violence without consequence and encourages disrespect.

From todays paper, 2 girls ages 5 & 6 killed a 3 yr old boy by suffocating him. The grandmother called it rough-housing that got out of hand. They admitted to trying to hold his head down in a mud puddle, when he escaped they chased him knocked him to the ground. While the 5 year old held his legs, the 6 year old held a pillow over his face and sat on it until he stopped moving. During interviews with law enforcement investigators the girls made statements very clearly indicating that they intended to kill this little boy. How does a family deal with that? How does society deal with it? Rhetorical questions. Please don't waste thread time with a discussion of this and please forgive my ranting. I was VERY affected by this story and share it only to demonstrate the degradation of morality.

The attitude you express is a BIG part of the crime problem in our nation, a nation with the highest execution and incarceration rate among the "civilized" industrialized nations, not to mention the insane amount of guns available compared to other countries. It is politicians pandering to your widely shared hateful attitude that has turned the justice system into a vengeance system that doesn't work. The causes and sources of criminal behavior are totally ignored and all is focused on the "criminal" who is often him/herself a victim. The number of innocent people who have been executed for crimes they did not commit is shocking.

I'll say you surprised me with that statement.

Regards,

RWS

Hi GZ:

Actually I thought your post was pretty mild. Here in CT they just let a thief & murderer (a state trooper a few years back) have life versus the death sentence. No justice.

Good thing the economy is booming.

If you don't teach a lesson it will never be learned.

OT - GZ, maybe you should look at the number of inmates put to death in Texas each year and ask if that is working. Sorry, but what we need is to go to the source and reach these people while they are still children and before they become criminals. Cutting off hands hasn't worked for centuries and putting people to death isn't working. We keep building more prisons and crime gets worse. About a week ago, Texas executed two criminals in one night. The numbers keep growing. Of course, its much easier for the politicians this way than to look at, and deal with, the real issue.
