HealthAxis.com Appoints James W. McLane to Board of Directors Former CEO of Aetna Health Plans and Former President of NovaCare to Serve as Board Member, Advisor PHILADELPHIA, Aug 22, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- HealthAxis.com, a subsidiary of HealthAxis Inc. (NASDAQ: HAXS chart, msgs) and a leading provider of web-enabling software solutions for healthcare payers and intermediaries, today announced the appointment of James W. McLane to the HealthAxis.com Board of Directors.
Mr. McLane will join the Company's Board effective immediately.
Mr. McLane will serve as an advisor to Chairman Al Clemens, CEO Michael Ashker and COO Dennis Maloney on organizational, marketing and strategic issues. In addition, Mr. McLane will assist the company in extending its relationships within the healthcare payer community.
"Jamie McLane is a welcome addition to our Board of Directors," said Michael Ashker, HealthAxis.com's chief executive officer. "His vast experience in the healthcare field, his understanding of the application of information technology to healthcare, and his wide range of relationships at the industry's top levels will be tremendous assets to HealthAxis."
"Having spent ten years in the healthcare field, I know first-hand the tremendous opportunity that exists to help payers reduce their plan distribution and member administration costs," said Jamie McLane, newly-appointed member of the Board of Directors. "Excessive paperwork, manual input, and a reliance on prior-generation information technology are generating tens of billions in wasted dollars across the industry. HealthAxis' web-enabling technology provides payers a solution that will help them regain control over their cost structures, while greatly improving service to members and other industry system participants--like eDistribution agents and employer groups. I am excited about the opportunity to help HealthAxis expand its leadership position in the e-health space."
McLane brings over 25 years of health insurance and financial services experience to the company. Prior to his appointment to the HealthAxis.com board, McLane served as president and chief operating officer of NovaCare, Inc., a King of Prussia, Pennsylvania-based physical rehabilitation company, which was sold to Select Medical, Inc. and other buyers late in 1999.
Prior to joining NovaCare, McLane served as executive vice president of Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford, Connecticut and chief executive officer of Aetna Health Plans prior to its merger with USHealthcare. Before Aetna, McLane spent many years at Citicorp as senior vice president and division executive of several capital markets and insurance businesses.
McLane served as a principal of the Jackson Hole Group, which developed many proposed reforms to the healthcare system in the early and mid-90's and on the executive committee of the Healthcare Leadership Council in Washington, D.C. He served on the boards of several venture capital-backed small companies in the healthcare field.
