I know I said that I will never post on this thread. Though I felt strongly against any moderated thread, as the originator of the first "Clown" thread, I have some obligation to respond to your concerns - especially this:The whole idea of referring to those who disagree as "clowns" is likely an important piece of this problem. Someone disagrees with me, therefore they're a "clown", "idiot", "fool", "Bozo", "moron" or whatever. Such a label makes it easy to dismiss them and their statements. And elevates me by knocking them down. In the original post of that thread I did not call only those who disagree with "my points of view" as clowns. Very subtly I called myself a "clown" - "clown zero," that is! Without a doubt it reflects my point of view of the markets and sentiments that go with it. As far as I am concerned, I have no doubt that we are in the midst of a mania. I get frustrated with the amount of disinformation and manipulation that is going on around us. The Feds, pols, investment bankers, analyst communities, and the companies that would do anything to keep their stock prices high and the public - all are willing parties to it. A majority of the public is either stupid or willing to believe all these lies as long as they are not caught. Needless to say that I am with Fleck on most of the issues he talks about in his rap. I like the fact that SI gives me a medium to express my views. Does it, really? That said, the original clown thread was started with the intention of continuing the same fun exchange we were having under other banners before. Of course, there are several occasions where I didn't like certain exchanges. I am a grown-up and I can certainly choose whom and what to ignore. I am not defending any one in particular, but contrary to what many people think, I believe that there are a good number of the regulars around here who do go with the herd to make a buck. But the big difference is that if I or Heinz went long on INSP, we make no bones about their prospects. We sing no praises for the management. We do no cheerleading. We know we are in it to sell it higher. Period. When we make our intentions clear and express the opinion that that company is a big joke and it is doomed in the long term, why should that offend the people who believe it? Of course, it is often the case that most of the times all of us treat those on the other side of our trade with a not shown grin on our faces "so long, sucker!" In my view, there are certain things in life one should never do - that is, curse the other guy's mom, his/her religious belief or native language. My SI experience suggests that somebody's stock picks go in that category too. It is a shame! I personally wouldn't say certain things some of the other regulars of this thread say. Likewise, I don't do certain things the regulars on the Porch thread do either. It doesn't bother me if Voltire called me an idiot or a clown. It bothers me if he called my mother names. This may not be the case with others as I do know that the thickness of the skin is different for each person. However, I strongly believe that no one can ever define absolute "decency," much less defend it. My sincere belief is that you ought to spend more time and energy in weeding out the unscrupulous scoundrals or ignorant idiots who use SI as a medium to make a buck or to spring to fame than wasting your time on name calling individuals. Perhaps more damage is done to individuals' portfolios by polite, but ignorant, ranting on Qualcomm than Luc's arrogance in calling a bunch of people as idiots or clowns. Just my two cents.
