Re: AMD and next week.. I'm surprised more discussion hasnt been talked about on here about the potential alliance Transmeta and AMD may be about to announce (a la AMD and Motorola) I think this is potentially big news... but it seems to have been ignored here.. or maybe its just you're all secretly reading the discussion that was going on about it at the AMD Mod. thread:)

Scott,

That's because we are not techies but rather normal people. <g>

Actually I think Transmeta is still far in the future in terms of a meaningful alliance. Now if something really develops with SUNW, I will go apesh*t.

As for the mod thread, this week they are feeling irrational exhuberance as opposed to the week prior's irreversible gloom.

Hi Rob,

I'm not really surprised it hasn't been picked up on the mod thread.

Transmeta isn't an engineering feat, nor is it well-respected in the engineering community; it has more flavor on the business/market side of the equation, than the engineering side.

Regards,
Amy J

From the hardware sites, the news has generally been greeted very positively.. seems to have been overlooked on here tho.

Scott,

I thought more about my response to you yesterday re the above.

As a techie geek from Kanada <g>, you may not know the business term, rainmaker. A rainmaker is someone who has the ability to go out and talk up the firm's products and bring in new customers and investors.....and make money/rain. Just as individuals are rainmakers so are firms.

Transmeta is too new to be a rainmaker but SUNW is not...in fact, SUNW can make it rain when the sun is shining. Not only that, SUNW can make it rain, hail, snow, and sleet all in one day. I think you get the picture.

Therefore an SUNW/AMD alliance would make for an incredible storm, primarily benefiting AMD. And no, AMD is not a rainmaker....yet....although I think it can make it shower from time to time. <g> That's at least part of the reason why I, for one, can't get too excited about Transmeta right now.

That's about the most business info you ever are going to want to hear...right?

There probably isn't more discussion because it is pure speculation at this point.
