I met Marcel Lefebvre when I was about 13 along with his Swiss guards. He exuded tranquility and holiness that I have not seen before or since. He choose poorly when he consecrated bishops and I think he knew that. Ratzinger was partly to blame for this. The SSPX could have carried on quite nicely without doing this. What happened after was a political system instead of a religious system. I do remember talking to Fr. Violette about the pope, the Polish one. He said a Polish pope does not make sense in Rome, it is a Roman system and demands an Italian. I made that connection when this site was posted by Gustave Jaeger friesian.com
