completely believe a known liar?
That is really uncalled for. Gore is as decent a man as any that run for major office, Jimmy Carter is the only polititian I can think of that approaches sainthood on being as honsest and complete as possible. Junior-George is no better.

do you really thing we would have anything near a balanced budget if a Republican Congress wasn't elected in 92?
Yes I do, The Republicans in '92 were more interesting in theatrics like shutting down the govt. and pushing abortion bills than they were in balancing the budget. It was Al Gore who was in charge of the task force to reduce spending while Clinton took on the role of raising revenues. That is the combination that balanced the budget.

parents should be in charge of their kids lives. ... parental choice in education
I think Gore and the other centrists have the right balance. Ideas should not be banned, but parents have a right to consultation and implementation. For example this week my daughter brought home the anticipated reading list for school and we had to option to have any of the books replaced with an alternate suggestion. A nice balance between having every child read something different in which case no discussion could happen, and no control.
So long as parental choice is a euphamism for sending big chunks of the money for public education to religious institutions, then Gore and I are right to oppose them. Just look at our local Crossroads school. The headmaster had been doing a Jimmy Swaggart immitation that he only took money from the school out of love. Huh? and you would propose we send public money there and have no oversite?

extol the virtues of public schools, while at the same time, send their kids almost unanimously to private exclusive schools?
Probably for the same reason Mother Theresa built hospitals but sought here own medical care in the state run hospitals. Better resources.

The problems in our schools are complex as are most public problems. What I look for is progress and not an instant solution. I think the public schools are the best unifying factor in this country and that last thing we need is for more and more groups to isolate themselves into petty tribes.
